sam84 Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 my laptop is ASUS make, i have Windows Vista. i dont know any thing about computers so would love some help!! Basically, when i turn on my laptop it goes straight to system repair which is unable to fix the problem. It tells me... No OS files found on disc ( although there is no disc in) Repair Action- Partition table repair Please help, what does this mean?? Quote
RandyL Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 It sounds like it can't find the Windows Operating System (OS) on the hard drive disk so it attempts to repair the OS but can't. Repair Action- Partition table repair Almost sounds like there was more than one OS installed but I could be wrong. Even if the BIOS were set to boot from a cd/dvd first if there was no disk in the drive it would go straight to the hard drive-Windows to load. My first guess would be that the hard drive has failed as no OS was found. If so you could attempt to connect the drive to another computer to recover data. RandyL Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 Replacing a hard drive is very simple. After putting it in you will need to install Windows again so you will need your Windows DVD's. sam84 Posted November 3, 2010 Author Posted November 3, 2010 ok, how do i know what hard drive i need to buy?? thankyou for your help!! Quote
RandyL Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 KenB explains it well and even has a link to a picture of both in this thread. http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/hard-drives-pen-flash-and-usb/10560-new-hard-drive-packard-bell-easynote-mz35-216-a.html#post70239 Once you determine if you have a IDE or a SATA any model will work. Since you have a laptop you will need a laptop size not a desktop size. And since it is a laptop you might not be comfortable replacing it yourself. Some are easier than others on laptops. What is the exact make, model and number of your laptop? Someone might be familiar with it. Do you have your installation disks? Also keep in mind that I am not positive this is a drive issue. Either way is there data on the computer you need to save? If so that will be the first thing to consider. Jump in people please. Quote We are all members helping other members.
