namu Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 Hello, My PC is acting practically as if it is oblivious of SOUND and AUDIO devices. I have tried everything i can: reinstall PC, google solutions to solve my problem and find that there are many easy solutions that involve with desabling your Sound and Games Device under Device Manager<Sustem<Control Panel etc, tried to install the audio devices on the web but failed to encounter any success.... DOES anyone know the solution to my problem. Am I installing the wrong Audio Device? I tried Realtrek (recomended by many others) but FAILED. is there a specific sound device that I have to install? If so, i tried searching for it...but i am so confzzled...there are a MYRIAD of devices? which one and I tried to scan my PC (thrice) for devices that are missing or need updating, but found that non of them thought my PC needed a sound device update. CAN SOMEONE please help meeeeee my pc is an Intel ®Pentium®4CPU2.8GHz 2.68GHz, 52Mb or Ram and it runs on Microsoft Windows XP Professional, 2002 Version, Service Pack 3 thanks you so much Quote
PseFrank Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 Hi Namu, welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help Just to save any confusion can you verify that you have reinstalled Windows XP Professional, and that you have Service Pack 3 installed. Note: If you have reinstalled Windows, you may not now have SP3 installed! If the above is correct, can you also tell us if you have automatic updates configured, and whether or not you have installed all of the security updates offered to you by Microsoft Update. Note: To use Microsoft Update your copy of Windows must be a licenced copy. Quote I thought I knew today...I'll try again tomorrow. :) Need help with your computer problems? namu Posted November 6, 2010 Author Posted November 6, 2010 yes My CD does work, but what i mean is that it doesnt fix my Audio device problem. This does mean that there is sth wrong with my CD right? i think its up to date, I tried 3 website that allow you to scan you PC and see for updates and devices that are required but they wouldnt come up with my sound device. thanks Quote

namu Posted November 6, 2010 Author Posted November 6, 2010 um i have installed it. but no sound any other solutions? thanks Quote
PseFrank Posted November 6, 2010 Posted November 6, 2010 Try this: Click Start Go to All Programs Click on Windows Update If you have not already done it...you should see an option to Get Microsoft Update Click Go Follow any instructions given, and download all of the Express updates offered to you. Note: One of the updates offered will be the Genuine Advantage Tool. After downloading and installing this update you will probably be asked to validate your copy of windows...Do it.. This will probably take some time to do, so be patient. After installing all of the Express updates, there is also an option to check out Custom Updates. Check them out, and download any update that you feel may apply to your computer and the way you use it. The difference between the normal Windows Updates and Microsoft Update is that Microsoft update looks at all of the programs you have installed, rather than just Windows programs. namu Posted November 7, 2010 Author Posted November 7, 2010 Hey I did it. but n the end it said that my windows was not a valid or t said exactly this: The version of Windows running on your PC may no longer be available for purchase. Use the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to see whether your PC can run Windows 7, which we designed to be more reliable, more responsive, and to make the things you do every day easier. Plus, with Windows 7, you’ll discover easy and exciting new ways to have fun and get things done with your PC. and Now it wants me to buy a windows 7 or vista that cost 150 bucks. is this really necessary? thanks Quote
PseFrank Posted November 7, 2010 Posted November 7, 2010 It would appear that you have a pirated copy of windows installed on this particular machine. This may not be of your doing. For instance, if you purchased the computer second hand, you would have no way of knowing at the point of purchase. So sadly, I have to say that I'm not able to help you out of this predicament. If you are not able to download Microsoft updates then I'm afraid that your only option is to buy a licenced copy of windows. Sorry I can't be of more help...
