Hi i am trying to fix my friends extremly low budget gaming pc. Too make a long story short the pc has no side panels and his 4yo kid tipped over his coffee :-). but ive got everything up and running again except for his graphics card he brought me over two

Ati Radeon 9200 128m

Ati Radeon 9800 Pro 128m

Now the 9800 was in the pc before and caught a lot of coffee but it works untill i change the screen resolution to 1680-1050 then it shuts off??

And the 9200 from the start makes everything even in cmos look like a rainbow every letter is a different color and when xp loads it looks like an original nintendo with a dirty game"basicaly its all messed up" ive got four mouse pointers and the list go's on

any help or advise leading to fixing them "hes not buying another one" would be greatly aprieciated "i almost dont know crap about agp or its format"

Hi Mikey, welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help

I'm afraid I don't know too much about graphics cards myself. But I was wondering if the PC in question has on board graphics that could be used. Is there another socket on the back of the tower?

I thought I knew today...I'll try again tomorrow. :)

yes and the onboard graphics work fine he wanted me to get one of the ati-cards working. but the 9200 is shot and the 9800 pro works fine untill it installs the driver then the display just gos to sleep. restart and same problem. i did however figure out his powersupply was kicking the card way too much juice "power pins were black" and switched psu. but still the same glitch??

Hi, this does sound like even the semi working card has a problem, the only real way to be sure is to install a different and known to be OK card, if that works OK then there must be something damaged on the original card.

Liquid spills into any electronics is always bad news as so many things can be damaged, but still seem to be working till something else is asked of it.

You are lucky to be able to have got the main computer to work OK.

Nev.
