Guest Stephen R Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 After completing the installation of XP SP3 and the necessary restarts I am unable to install any new software that uses the Windows Installer. Also tried re-registering per the KB and restarting to have it work properly but no luck. Everytime I restart the windows installer installation always runs, the event viewer shows no issues. Any advice please
Guest ju.c Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 Re: XP SP3: Windows Installer not working You mean installations are OK if you start the Windows Installer Service manually? The Windows Installer Service should be set to Auto. ju.c "Stephen R" <StephenR@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:0A6126A7-2C9E-4770-8C9B-7383FE58A220@microsoft.com... > After completing the installation of XP SP3 and the necessary restarts > I am > unable to install any new software that uses the Windows Installer. > Also > tried re-registering per the KB and restarting to have it work > properly but > no luck. > > Everytime I restart the windows installer installation always runs, > the > event viewer shows no issues. > > Any advice please
Guest Saucer Man Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 Re: XP SP3: Windows Installer not working The Windows Installer Service is set to Manual by default. If it is not starting when it is called by another program then something else is wrong. Guest Stephen R Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Re: XP SP3: Windows Installer not working Trying to install even after manually starting the service fails. Going to the WindowsUpdate site sends me on an endless loop of choosing teh express or custom install and 'Register or reinstall the files for me now (Recommended)' selection. If I go to the Windwos Installer Service, select the dependencies tab it shows error 'Interface: Class not registered' I may need to go the SP3 uninstall route. Guest hberends Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Re: XP SP3: Windows Installer not working I'm lost. I'm having the same issue, and have tried the Windows Update but see nothing regarding a new installer. I also attempted a System Restore going back to the day prior to installing SP3 with no luck. Any other ideas? Guest Doug W. Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Re: XP SP3: Windows Installer not working Don't know...after I installed XP - SP 3, the Windows Update HAD a new installer version, which I downloaded and it was installed. I seem to recall that is was bundled with another update. I always read the details lest I get something that I have previosly hidden. Anyway, Windows Downloads had a copy there as well. Try there and do a search for it , but it should be on their listing.. - "hberends" <hberends@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:D2202C8B-EABC-44A2-94E5-2C7E40EF2237@microsoft.com... > I'm lost. Guest RedSnowDonkey Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Re: XP SP3: Windows Installer not working I had the exact same problem this morning, when I rebuilt after a nasty little virus. I've found a potential solution at: 'Basement Blog - Office Update problem after XP SP3 Install' (http://www.neurophys.wisc.edu/comp/blog/) I'm at work so haven't tried it yet, but I hope it helps!
