Windows 2008 Roaming Profiles not working

I have a new Windows 2008 Domain Controller (DC) with the File Services rle

installed and a new Windows 2008 Server with the Terminal Server (TS) role

configured. All clients will be accessing their desktop from the Terminal

Server using the VistaSP1 and/or XPSP3 RDP Client.

I want the user profiles to be created on a server share on DC (e.g.

\\DC\Profiles\%username%). I manually created the share on DC and configured

a GPO to force creation of the "roaming" profile in the location specified.

When a user logs on, a file folder is created (username.domainname.v2) in the

share but it is empty and the user receives an error that the profile was not

loaded correctly.

Starting from the ground up, how can I get this to work correctly?
