Scrasey2 Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 I would really appreciate some help please. On the weekend I downloaded lots of photos from my camera and for some reason they wouldn't show up when I put my USB stick in to the computer which I put my memory card in to. I had to use a USB lead from my camera into my pc to view the photos. I managed to download them all etc and everything was fine apart from Microsoft Picture Manager had opened about 20 times. Later on when I went back to my pc, Picture Manager had completely taken over all my files so I can longer go on the internet or even connect to the internet. I cannot open any programs or files as Picture Manager opens instead. When I turn my pc on I have 18 Picture Manager screens to close down. Luckily I can use my Husband's pc to ask for help. I am using Windows XP, Internet Explorer 8. Are you able to help please? Thanks Sarah Quote
PseFrank Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Hi Sarah, welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help Could you tell us which version of Microsoft office you have installed? And could you also tell us if you are able to get to Add and Remove Programs in the control panel? Start > Control Panel > Double click Add and Remove Programs. Quote I thought I knew today...I'll try again tomorrow. :) Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Unfortunately although I can get into the control panel, there are very limited folders I can open, Add remove programs is not one of them. Thanks Sarah Quote
DSTM Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 Hi Scrasey2. Further to what PseFrank has said, can you access Add and Remove,in Safe Mode? Tapping F8 on Start Up. Quote Confidence, is the feeling I get, moments before I stuff something up.

Hi, No, I have just tried that but it still comes up with Picture Manager when I click on add/remove programs. I so hope this can be fixed - it's doing my head in now!! Thanks very much Sarah Quote
DSTM Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 Hi Sarah. This picture manager is very unusual,as it copies every image you view on the net. We have to disable it. First open Picture Manager, select tools and uncheck every File association Box. I haven't the program, but must have OK or Apply or similar, at the bottom. Then read this from Microsoft, and set all like files, to open with another Viewer you have. Like windows Picture and Fax viewer, for example. Link. How to change or select which program starts when you double-click a file in Windows XP Hope this Helps. Quote Confidence, is the feeling I get, moments before I stuff something up.

I went to My Computer then Tools, File Options, File Types, New then I typed EXE and Application appeared underneath along with it telling me Microsoft Picture Manager was associated with it! I then changed it to Notepad which was recommended - not sure if this is the correct app but it now works!! Whoop whoop Thanks for for your help!! Quote
