AirGCFG.exe-Entry Point not found after SP3 Upgrade

No problems experienced during upgrade from Windows XP SP2 to SP3. However,

when the computer is booted now an error message appears; AirGCGFG.exe -

Entry Point Not Found. The procedure entry point apsGetInterfacecount could

not be located in the dynamic link library wlanapi.dll.

 

Has anyone else experienced this problem, if so have you found a solution?

Hi, I have discovered that the file AirGCFG.exe is part of the D-Link

software for my PCMCIA Wireless G Notebook Adapter. Uninstalling this

software has resolved the problem. I presume that when I re-install the

software all will be OK, if not in the words of the Terminator "I will be

back."

Hi, I'm back. I've just upgraded a second Laptop/notebook computer to SP3,

et voila a similar problem; "WZCSLDR2.exe - Entry Point not found" - The

procedure entry point "apsInitialize" could not be located in the dynamic

library wlanapi.dll. Googling for WZCSLDR2.exe again points to my "D-Link

G54 AirPlus G" wireless Notebook Adapter software, so I presume my next port

of call will be the D-Link website, technical help page. I will return!

I had already thought of that but the driver on the website is dated from 26

August 2006 and the CD supplied with the adapter (March 2008) is the same

version. However, I have now downloaded & installed the website driver,

unfortunately the problem persists.

I have now removed SP3 from one of the computers and all is back to normal.

I have reported the problem to D-Link & presume they will have to provide a

new driver for their software.

Exactly the same problem, but fixed it by going to Windows Defender, Tools - Software Explorer and

disabled AirGCFG.exe from automatically starting at boot.** Now I don't get the error message and

the Dlink NIC card works just fine.

AirGCFG is a NIC monitoring function and the NIC will work without it.

Dlink was advised and reported back that SP3 was still Beta and they may work on the problem after

MS releases the final SP3.

I informed them that they did not know what was what and I would not hold my breath until they fix

the problem.

Found out the problem was due to a new version of the wlanapi.dll file introduced with SP3 that

conflicts with the Dlink monitoring file.

 

** Note: AirGCFG did not show up in the "msconfig" startup listing. But does show in Windows

Defender, with an explanation of what it does.

Thank you for the instructions on how to get around the problem, I will try

out your recommendation this morning. I have also reported the problem to

D-Link, it will be interesting to read their reply to me.

Your information about SP3 being a beta version was interesting. Normally I

don't install beta versions and I did not notice Microsoft warning me that

SP3 is a beta version before I downloaded it.

However I must say that my computer appears to be noticeably faster with the

SP3 upgrade.

Ok- not realizing there would be so many versions of wireless decices with

this same problem I incorrectly used one of the fixes list here for wrong

adapter.
