help, wheres the battery

Hi everyone,

I got a HP d530, its one of those small desktop pcs, everytime I turn it on i get a message telling me that its not holding time. I have found out that it means it could be the battery, i opened the case but cannot locate the battery knowwhere, does any one know where the batteries on this specific pc are located.

 

Also if I have had this problem now for over a year, would that suggest to you that its a more serious problem than just the battery, because would a battery not have run totally dead by now

Battery is a CR2032, and it could be one of two different battery holders on the board.

 

Do a Google image search for the CR2032, that will give you an idea of its size and shape. I guess you will be able to find it straight away.

 

You will probably find that if you leave the power switch at the wall in the ON position your board will hold time, switch it off and the settings are gone. Yes, it does sound like a flat CMOS battery, and for the £3 or so they are to buy, swap it before looking at anything else.

 

Just a word of caution. When actually changing the CMOS battery. Do not leave the power switched on at that time.
