Guest Edwin Smith Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 About a week ago, I used Acronis Disk Director to resize the partitions on a Dell Perc Raid 5 system with SATA drives. This is in order to give more space to the C: system drive. Afterward I ran chkdsk /f on both volumes to correct errors. Now Backup Exec fails saying the VSS is already running when it isn't. If I click on the Shadow Copies tab in My Computer properties for each volume I get the following: Failed to retrieve volumes that are eligible for shadow copies. Error 0x8004230F: The Shadow copy provider had an unexpected error while trying to process the specified operation. I also see the following event in the Application event viewer: Event Type: Error Event Source: VSS Event Category: None Event ID: 12293 Date: 5/11/2008 Time: 11:14:37 PM User: N/A Computer: CLINIC Description: Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Error calling a routine on the Shadow Copy Provider {b5946137-7b9f-4925-af80-51abd60b20d5}. Guest Edwin Smith Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Re: VSS no workee! I failed to mention that Acronis is NOT installed on this server. I used the boot CD to run Disk Director. I checked your suggestions but they either don't work for the reason above or I had already tried some of them. Thanks for your kind help.
