Something is sending a E-Mail from me

I am not sending E-Mails out.

But somthing is sending e-mail out from my Gmail account to my contacts.

Any idears how to stop it please?

 

I am using Windows 7

and Avast Antivirus

The account was hacked but not necessarily through your computer. Change you gmail password immediately and, if I were you, I would remove all contacts from your list. Start using a mail client such as Windows Live Mail, Thunderbird or even Outlook. Keep your contacts in the client only and not on the web based mail.

 

This is a very common occurrence.

I thought it was a virus or something that was doing it (Silly Me :o )

 

I have changed my Password and will get a mail client. I had one YEARS ago but had a lot of problems with it, so I had not tryed one since.

 

Will that stop anyone hacking my e-mail :D

In most cases it is just a program that has worked around the security of the webmail. I had exactly the same problem with gmail at one point but the only contact that I had was another email address of my own. I got spam from me. :D

Changing the password will stop it but if there is another go around and it gets in again it will start all over. What it is looking for is a list of contacts to attribute to your name. If you look closely at the spam email and go into its properties you will see that it actually did not originate from your account it is only made to look that way.

If it is of any comfort, I have had three friends recently suffered the same problem, but in their case it was via MSN, Hotmail, or as it is now Windows Live mail. In all cases following the same advice as from BeeCeeBee, and at least changing your password, stopped it all.

I had this same problem other week, my mates rang me and said why do i keep sending them emails about weird stuff. I changed my password and it seemed to work

It is also caused via FaceBook....

Some MSN passwords and usernames were 'leaked' a while ago....

changing your password and memorable question will sort it
