BigRussuk Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 Hi all I've an advent T9610 Desktop, not being used at home, thinking of taking it to work and using it as the main computer at work, to run kitchen and bathroom design cad programs and quoting software, 3-4 other laptops would be using this systems resourses....i've not got a great knowledge on networks and how they work, but all the main software would be stored on this comp, which the others access. All comps are running windows 7 ultimate. My question is :- The Advent has 3gb of Ram - upgradable to 8gb what ram do you think i'll use, will 3 be enough ? thinking of putting another 2 in, is that a waste of time...or might i need more ? cheers in advance Russ Quote
DSTM Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 Hi BigRussuk. The Physical Ram limit, for Windows7 Ultimate 32 Bit, is 4 GIGS. Windows7 Ultimate 64 Bit is 192 GIGS. Quote Confidence, is the feeling I get, moments before I stuff something up.
BeeCeeBee Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 It seems to me that if all these computers are accessing your one laptop at the same time it simply will not be able to handle it. You are basically turning a laptop with minimal resources into a server. I am sure there will be some real hardware experts who will weigh in on this but, from my limited viewpoint, it just isn't going to work the way you want it to.
