deleting Mouse drivers from DEVICE MGR

Hi folks,

my mice have developed "hiccups".

i use both a PS2 and USB mouse (the ps2 is hooked up to a shared KB/ mouse /

monitor system that feeds 3 computers. never been a problem.) the USB is

one of those optical mice with scroll-wheel. nice.) using both mice on my

main XPpro box has never been an issue.

last couple of days, my mice are "hiccuping" - this means, usually after

engaging the mouse and clicking on a new item, the mouse pointer "jumps"

about 3 inches to the left on my screen. bit annoying.

thru the hardware panel, can I simply delete mice from the "Mice & Other

Pointing devices" list, and XP will re-build the drivers on re-boot, or with

automatic USB detection?

another similar question: can USB devices be deleted from the "Universal

Serial Bus Controllers" list (in device mgr) and they'll automatically be

re-installed? (i have both motherboard and pci-slot USB ports); my list has

4 "Intel 82801EB USB Universal Host Controllers, 1 Standard Enhanced PCI to

USB Host Controller, 2 USB Mass Storage Devices (might be the camera flash

cards I have plugged in), and 5 USB Root Hubs.

I'm sure a techie has talked me thru deleting some of these list items in

the past and re-boot auto re-builds them. Perhaps it was the ROOT HUBS

only.

any enlightenment on Mouse Hiccups and Deleting Devices from Dev Mgr would

be greatly appreciated.

AFAIK, WinXP will detect your mice and will install the appropriate

drivers. Even if it does not, you can always use System Restore to

undo any action you might have taken - as long as you stay away from

critical system components! I would take these precautions before

deleting drivers:

- Create a System Restore Point.

- Check that it has been created.

- Familiarise myself with the keyboard actions required to

invoke System Restore without the aid of a mouse.
