Guest boba Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 I don't see WINS configured on any of our Servers. Only DNS with backup DNS. LMHosts lookup is enabled. Does it matter if WINS is configured or not. If I have to can I do it on one of the DCs? We have two DCs. We have some virtual servers (5-7) and 4-5 other servers. I am new to the company. Not enough info is present. Mostly users are using Wyse thin clients to connect to Citrix servers (3 of them). Thanks!
Guest Anthony [MVP] Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Re: WINS You only need to think about WINS if you need to browse the network across multiple subnets connected by routers or layer 3 switching. If not, you don't need it. WINS is an easy service to manage, so if you do have multiple subnets you may as well implement it. Guest boba Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 RE: WINS We have four branches connected through cisco routers (1720 and 2610 series) with average 4-6 users at the branch and about 40-50 at main office. Subnets are 192.148.114.0, 192.148.115.0, 192.116.0,192.148.117.0 with 24 bits subnet mask. I thought of WINS if configuring will help in anyway. Everything is running good. Thanks for your help!
