After installing SP3 to one of my Intel MB computers in the network, it is

going into a continuous reboot. As suggested in one of the following article

http://msinfluentials.com/blogs/jesper/archive/2008/05/08/does-your-amd-based-computer-boot-after-installing-xp-sp3.aspx

I could find the following error:

Stop: c0000221 unknown HARD ERROR

\systemRoot\system32\ntdll.dll

I shall be grateful if someone can guide me how to rectify this error.

Thanking you in advance,

This is a normal dll coruption after SP3 install and you need to replace

the dll...need to go to the recovery console for it...

1.Boot ur machine from the CD..follow the instructions till the time it

says press r to repair.

2.select the correct drive from the RC..

3.Copy the file in question(ntdll.dll) from the XP CD..(it shud be in

the i386 folder) to C:\Windows\System32..(considering u have windows on

c drive:))

Background information on Stop Error Report

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms797157.aspx

0xC0000221: STATUS_IMAGE_CHECKSUM_MISMATCH

Indicates driver problems, system file problems, disk corruption

problems (such as a damaged pagefile), or faulty memory hardware.

I think Fazal's suggestion is a good one if you can master the necessary

commands to copy the replacement file.

Re: ntdll.dll error following SP3 installation on Intel MB computer causing to reboot

Fazal,

Thanks for your advice. I tried to follow your advice and was able to go to

c:\windows folder by the XP installation disk. However, when I type the

command copy f:\i386\ntdll.dll c:\windows\system32 I get the message "Access

denied".

Can you suggest a work around for this?

Thanking you for your help.

Please use the SET command in Recovery Console, set the following

variables to TRUE

"allowallpaths": Allows you to change directories to

include all folders on all drives.(CD Command)

- "allowremovablemedia": Allows you to copy files from the hard disk to

a

floppy disk or other recognized removable media.

Fazal,

Thank you for your advice. On trying to use the SET command, I am getting

the following message:

"The SET command is currently disabled. The SET command is an optional

Recovery Console command that can only be enabled by using the Security

Configuration and Analysis snap-in"

Kindly advise what needs to be done to enable the command.

Thanking you in advance,

Re: ntdll.dll error following SP3 installation on Intel MB computer causing to reboot

hmmmm...

That brings us to the end of RC trick coz there are limited ways of

enabling the SET command and all of them require logging onto the

PC...it is quite strange that the SET command was disabled coz I still

never came accross finding it disabled though I have workd on thousands

of No boot boxes...

OK ..heres the plan..

Option A->Either we go ahead with an inplace repair...That means ur

current installation will be repaired using the media and ur programs

remain intact...only updates wud need to be installed..

check this

How to Perform a Windows XP Repair Install

'How to Perform a Windows XP Repair Install'

Option B->Parallel Install..Install XP on another drive, and copy the

required files from there on the main OS..

I would prefer the first one...

Hope this helps!!

RE: ntdll.dll error following SP3 installation on Intel MB computer ca

I had the same issue after installing SP3. I was able to boot from another

hard drive and copy the ntdll.dll file onto my XP drive. When I rebooted

with the XP Drive I did receive two warning message that software was being

installed for a com port and hard drive that had not been tested and approved

for XP. I did select, "Do not Proceed" to both message.

My computer seemed to be locked up with only my desktop background showing

(No icons). After waiting for sometime, I did hard shut down the computer

and once the computer was retarted, Everthing seemed to be fine.

After checking my hardware devices, I did find that I had a comunication

port not installed correctly. I just reinstalled the device and that took

care of that issue.

Hope this helps.
