TermService clustering failed ...

I'm having error ID: 1020 "TermService clustering failed to update the

session directory, hrresult=0x80004005". I have two TS servers in a

load-balanced configuration using sessions directory. One server is posting

this system error, the other is not.

I am a newbie with servers, and so the same with terminal servers. I've

check with the Microsoft help and support center. Their response: "We're

sorry

There is no additional information about this issue in the Error and Event

Log Messages or Knowledge Base databases at this time."

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Is the Session Directory service running on a separate server, or

on one of the Terminal Servers?

Are all servers members servers in a domain? Are you using GPO's to

configure your servers?

Event 1020 is recorded when a Terminal Server cannot contact the

Session Directory to update it. Check the following:

- verify that the Session Directory settings are correct (in

Terminal Services configuration - Session Directory)

- verify that all GPO's are applied correctly to both servers (with

gpresult)

- verify that the Session Directory service is running on the

Session Directory server

- verify that the TS can ping the Session Directory server

Re: TermService clustering failed ...

Thank you for your assistance.

I am new to servers, and terminal servers, so I will do my best to use the

correct terminology.

Some background: The TS configuration utility, on the terminal server with

the errors, is corrupt. If I start the utility, it hangs, it never opens.

This has been an on-going problem for months. I have not found any

information on how to correct this problem. The current error, just began

several days ago. I see through the manager utility, that people are still

making connections to this server.

*The Session Directory service is running on a separate server.

*At this time, there are two terminal servers in the same domain, in a load

balanced configuration.

*The terminal servers are in their own OU with some Session Directory

settings: Join Session Directory and Session Directory Server. Both are

configured and enabled.

*The Session Directory service is running

*I can ping the Session Directory server from the terminal server with the

TermService error messages.

Thank you for any advice or information.

Re: TermService clustering failed ...

I would first apply this:

327508 - How to Turn On the Terminal Services Session Directory

Logging Service

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=327508

and check if the logfile gives you some more information.

If that doesn't help, I think that you should call Microsoft

Support, to fix the problem with the corrupted Terminal Services

Configuration (which most likely is part of the problem).
