Windows Update SP3 -- blind install ? ? ?

Hi,

Prior to MS releasing SP3, I had all updates thru and or including SP2, for

Windows XP Home Edition, with the exception of IE7, OE7, MP11 and all of the

Malicious Tools - all of which I disabled and remain in the online "hidden

updates" folder.

I want to initiate the SP3 update, however the specific updates are all

hidden so I cannot determine which updates are necessary versus which

updates MS may try to install that I previously disabled to the online

"hidden updates" folder.

In short, I am concerned that MS will install IE7, OE7, MP11 and all of the

Malicious Tools - programs that have absolutely ZERO INTEREST to me at this

time.

Does anyone know how to get around this "blind" install of SP3?

Thanks,

Pawulk

BeeGee,

SP3 will NOT install either IE7 or WMP 11.

You keep whatever versions of those two applications are already installed

on your computer. So, if you have IE6/OE6 and WMP 10, then you'll still have

them after installing SP3.

Thanks for your reply and sharing your understanding, Alan.

I am equally concerned about MS' Malicious Tool program - my initial

experience was less than favorable and I strongly suspect that it will

install whichever (current) versions are not already in my online "hidden

updates" folder.

I suppose that I should just give it a try and if MS fux me with their MT

program, then I will have to go thru the same b.s. that I did the first

time.

Thanks again!

The only Malicious Tool that is ever installed and run is the one being

provided on Patch Tuesday during the current month. The tool is cumulative

and no previous ones are downloaded. To my knowledge the tool is not part

of SP3 and the new one only becomes available on WU on each Patch Tuesday.
