windows 7 real slow

hiya everyone.;).ive just bought a pc which is really slow.boot takes about 30 seconds,pages take around 20 secs to load and animations dont run properly.my graphics card and drivers are ok,ive done a dxdiag if that helps.i have no mal/spyware,i do have an external drive pluggud in dont know if that matters.thanks guys for any suggestions.
