davestewart Posted September 27, 2006 Posted September 27, 2006 My laptop has one hardrive called C:\ with a total capacity of 71.2GB. I went into the properties of the drive and most of the pie chart is blue, saying 56.3GB used, and 14.8GB free. I don't understand what is taking up that 56.3GB? I have 19GB of music, and some programs, but I can't think of how I could have that much on my computer. I had 30GB free not long ago and I haven't made any drastic changes since or downloaded any big programs. Thank you for your help. Quote
Jamey Posted September 28, 2006 Posted September 28, 2006 System Restore uses quite a percentage by default, files in the Recycle Bin can accumulate, the paging file is a bit big, a hibernation file exists if hibernation is enabled, temporary files accumulate and so on. There are numerous causes, the easiest way to investigate is to download WinDirStat, a truly useful utility. It takes a few minutes to run but allows you to physically see what is consuming all that space. Click on each block to find out where it is located, right-click for more options. Quote
PriceChild Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 Try using CCleaner from download.com It really does clean out the crap! Quote
