'Mornning all,

Last night my daughter droped her lap-top smashing the screen. this mornning I hooked it up to a monitor and vire the "windows repaire boot screen" got it running. Now the problem, while it was repaireing, and after at initial boot up images appear on the external monitor but then the smashed built-in monitor trys to display and the external gos blank. Any one know how I can turn off the built-in? I await your thoughts chaps with hope.

Hi Neill.

You didn't mention the kind of laptop you have, but usually there's a key on the keyboard that will switch you into "External Monitor" mode which turns off your LCD and turns on your VGA or TV-out port.

Make and Model of Lap-Top would help us to assist you further.:)

Just as DSTM has already said there will probably be a keyboard command to turn off the laptop screen. You should not need to do anything other than plug in the external monitor for it to be detected.

If you look at the F keys on your laptop there might be a small icon of a screen on one of them. Often this is either F4 or F5. Try pressing the Fn key + the F key that has the icon. This should turn on/off the laptop screen.

I thought I knew today...I'll try again tomorrow. :)

Sorry chaps, it's a toshiba equium, yes there are 2 keys that look monitor related F5 and F9. The odd thing is that the toshiba splash screen is displayed on the external as is the first part of the microsoft with moveing green bars, it's only when the vista logo should appear that it trys to use the built-in display. Any-** I will give it a go and get back, ta so far.

I am thinking with that impact, and if the lap-top is the model with 2 GiGS of Ram,maybe one of the Ram sticks may have become dislodged also.

Hi Neil, you must have posted while I was typing. Glad you've got your immediate problem sorted out.

My suggestion was that to make sure that your ram is seated properly. Sometimes can be dislodged.

If you need help sourcing a new screen we will need to know the model number.

Thanks DTSM, I assumed that it would be shale we say less than cost efective to try and re-place the screen?the model no. is PSAF5E-002005KS and it's a equium A200-1VO. If any one has any ideas that would be great. I had the same thought about the ram-sticks, checked and found o.k.
