Guest Richard Price Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Hi, This morning I suffered what looks to be a full NtFRS resync across my two file servers (about 40GB of data) for no particular reason that I can see. The servers are actually unused at the moment, so none of the data is actually changing so I cant see any reason why a full resync would trigger. Is it possible to force NtFRS to replicate across a dedicated link? Both of the servers have an unused gigabit ethernet port that I can use to put a direct link between the two machines, but is there any way to force NtFRS to use that link rather than the general LAN one? Cheers Richard

Richard, With FRS you will get a full sync if, for example, the security attributes of the file or folder changes. There is no specific way in FRS to define which link to use. You could have a look at DFSR for more efficient and controllable replications, Anthony, http://www.airdesk.co.uk "Richard Price" <richardprice@gmail.com> wrote in message news:af57b9fe-f4bb-4ef9-9316-7d84be2f5591@k13g2000hse.googlegroups.com... > Hi, > > This morning I suffered what looks to be a full NtFRS resync across my > two file servers (about 40GB of data) for no particular reason that I > can see. I shall take a look at DFRS - weirdly nothing I have looked at yet with regard to Distributed File System has mentioned it has its own replication system. Cheers Richard
Guest Anthony [MVP] Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Re: File Replication Service - dedicated network link? Richard, Not a backup, no. The documentation for DFS can be a little confusing. You just need to know that the namespace features changed in SP1, and the GUI and Replication changed in R2. Guest Richard Price Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Re: File Replication Service - dedicated network link? Anthony, I have now moved over to DFSr and the situation has improved no end. Thanks for the top tip! Regards Richard
Guest Anthony [MVP] Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Re: File Replication Service - dedicated network link? That's good to hear! FRS was OK, but a real pain if the whole folder had to be re-replicated.
