YW. That was my prime suspect, too.

Make sure you have the courtesy to post this in a reply to your techguy.org

forum thread, too.

How did it come to be installed in the first place?

[Think your Registry needs "cleaning" or "repairing"? Read

http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=28099 and draw your own conclusions.]

Re: win xp sp3

It came to be installed because I was downloading nearly everything I could

find to cleanup virus spyware adware malware. I used advanced win clr and it

found alot of issues, it had what is called a memory cleaner, which each time

I ran that it freed up my memory for a day anyhow. I thought it was the fix I

was looking for, wrong. Anyway things are much better now I'll stay away

from that software and any registry cleaners. I read the link you set up, I

don't need to get into all of that. Like I said before, I'm not real tech

smart, but I know just enough to get myself in trouble. I did post on TECH

Guys that that post was resolved. Again Thanks for the help Larry

I installed SP3 on my six-year-old laptop with only 256 mb RAM. Yes,

it's slow starting -- but not nearly six minutes -- but once started

programs run just fine. I don't do much multitasking with this machine

-- but Office 2007 programs run reasonably well, one at a time.

Not surprisingly, SP3 installation took three times as long on the

laptop as it did on my desktop, which has 1 gb RAM
