Then simply turn off the computer turn it back on and insert the windows disk straight away and follow the instructions. It will ask you to partition the drive, so some for OS files and the rest for Data. Quote
hooky Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 If your Windows 7 version is an upgrade one then you will have to install XP first and then upgrade it to Win 7, I've just had this problem last week, although you can do a clean install with the Win 7 disk when you come to enter the Licence Number (COA) it will say that you cannot continue as you are using an ugrade version. Hope this helps Quote

Hope this helps hi hooky thank you for your response to my question about windows 7 ,have just got my windows 7 ultimate 32-bit x86 upgrade disc zzzz(info of disc ) so looks like i will have to purchase a copy of windows xp first then use my windows 7 disc ,does it matter what windows xp disc i use .regards justpurple Quote
hooky Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 I don't think so, you should be able to get a copy on eBay, make sure you get a genuine copy with a COA. For info I have been having problems with my nephews laptop, it wouldn't let me install XP as it said there was no hard drive present, in the end I installed an upgrade version of Vista but didn't register it, I then upgraded Vista to Win 7, I didn't expect it to work but when I input the Licence code it accepted it and the laptop is now working OK, it might! work for you if you can get an XP disc and then use your Win 7 upgrade disc Quote
Plastic Nev Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 Hi, Can you tell us a bit more about the computer itself, I gather it already has Windows7 but on a small drive, am I right? If so did it come with any disks, or recovery partition? Did you make any recovery disks when you first got it if no disk came with it? It may be possible to install the original operating system onto the new higher capacity drive. Failing that, considering the upgrade disk has not yet been used, why not return it, get your money back or put it against, and buy a full retail version of W7, cost you less than buying and installing Vista or XP, which I am not sure if an upgrade from XP is an option anyway.
