BigRussuk Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Hi all We have 2 identical in every way 'Acer aspire one' net books both have same cpu, same memory (1.5gb) I've just upgraded them from lynux to windows 7...one absolutely flies and one is totally unusabley slow Anybody ideas on things to try ? Cheers Russ
BigRussuk Posted December 1, 2010 Author Posted December 1, 2010 Just to elaborate a little...it seems to do most things....eventually, just takes an age shutting down and booting, and say if you open up any program it just seems to lag for 5-10 seconds as if it's thinking about it...once it starts it seems to open the program ok. Sounds like a memory issue to me, but dont think it is, as the same memory works fine in the other, and the memory usage gadget in '7' never shows above 40% ?
RandyL Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 Although the memory is low the problem might be related as to what's running at startup on one that isn't on the other. Dalo Harkin Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 1.5GB is low for W7 regardless what version it is. Did you reformat both drives when you installed W7? As Randy has said there must be something different - have a look in event viewer for any errors/warnings on the slow one. Plastic Nev Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 The only thing I can see other than what has already been mentioned is the original memory, for the Acer one originally only has just over 500MB memory so you must have installed the extra 1GB. As you say they work OK in either machine, so I suspect it may be the original memory is causing a problem. If it is not removable as it isn't in most netbooks, it may need a technician to unsolder the connections for replacement. The only other suggestion I have is to try a complete reformat of the slow one and re-install the W7 Nev. Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. BigRussuk Posted December 4, 2010 Author Posted December 4, 2010 Thanks for your input guys, as i say, they ARE both identical machines, both had linux on, both hard drives formatted and both installed with windows 7 from the same disk. I only installed '7' to try it as i thought it would stuggle...but the first one i tried...honestly works like a dream, it really does fly ! these are the kids comps and all they do is browse facebook and stuff but it loads as fast as my own comp. The 2nd, ive tried everything....updated bios, tried the online optimising programs...windows built in problem solver...what i dont understand is non report any problems, as i say the windows 7 widget isnt even reporting the cpu or memory are over-used. At a loss
Plastic Nev Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 I have to ask, you say you installed Windows7 from the same disk. Which form or type of operating system and its license? I mean is it an OEM version, single, or multiple license. Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. BigRussuk Posted December 4, 2010 Author Posted December 4, 2010 Btw, Nev cheers again But the 2nd machine worked fine with linux , and still shows 1.5gb usable in sytem info
BigRussuk Posted December 4, 2010 Author Posted December 4, 2010 Nev...it's a version that works fine on 6-7 other comps i've used it on :) (ultimate)
RandyL Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 it's a version that works fine on 6-7 other comps i've used it on is it an OEM version, single, or multiple license We really need to determine this. What does it say on the disks? How much did they cost? Have you purchases additional licenses for them? We are all members helping other members. BigRussuk Posted December 4, 2010 Author Posted December 4, 2010 Randy lol...why do 'we' need to know ?.....it's non of your business how much i f'kin' paid for them, if you haven't got a resolution to my problem...butt out. The fact is the software is not at fault as it's worked fine on other comps, I just need some help from those who can...not from those who want to be smart and 'holier than thou'
RandyL Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 Based on your previous posts and your answer to me it's obvious you are using an illegal pirated version of Windows. if it were legal it would be one license-one computer. It's our business because it is not only against forum rules to assist in such matters it can run us afoul of Microsoft which we can ill afford. Furthur it is also against The Rules to engage in rude behavior which you have clearly just done. Due to the second infraction: Thread Closed Member Banned We are all members helping other members.
