Windows System Restore Problems

Recommended Posts

I believe that I have a problem and I wanted to run System Restore to go back

to a point before I started noticing the problem. Every time I launch System

Restore, it tells me that my computer cannot be restored to that restore

point. I have tried every one and none of them work. I even ran the

Microsoft Malicious Software removal tool(which found 24 files with issues

including some of the system restore point files). What can I do at this

point?

Ron, try rt clicking MyComputer>select Properties>System Restore. Click

the box that say's Turn off System Restore on

all Drives. Click Apply, Ok. Restart and when XP loads just reverse

the procedure.

You really only want System Restore to monitor the Windows partition.

Monitoring other drives is pointless and if they are removable drives it

can lead to problems.

Hope this helps.

RE: Windows System Restore Problems

If you have Avast av freeware, that could be the problem.

If you have AV software you have to disable it before using system restore,

I have Norton & I have to do that & disable 'turn on protection for Norton

products'.

Re: Windows System Restore Problems

Gerry,

Thanks for the heads up. But, by performing the procedure that I

mentioned doesn't

that clear all the restore points and refresh System Restore?

All restore points are removed but that will not solve Ron's problem.

Re: Windows System Restore Problems

Gerry, thanks for the link. I will have to re-visit System Restore

and reconsitute my

thinking on said subject.
