Hi, I built my computer about 6 months ago, and at first I started to have a few problems with the computer crashing, but they seemed to stop.

But now they have started up again, and it happens every time I turn my computer on. If I run the computer in normal mode, then after about 2 minutes, the computer freezes and I have to restart it. But this doesn't happen in safe mode, or safe mode with networking.

I am using an older case so I was whether the computer could be overheating, but wanted to check if there could be any other problems before I went and bought one.

Thanks for your help.

Max.

Hi and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help.

Considering that all seems fine in safe mode, it suggests a conflict of some sort, however those are difficult to pin down.

The obvious though is to not have more than one antivirus installed, also no more than one firewall, having two of either is well known for freezing machines.

However if that is not the case, it can get trickier to pin down.

First thing is find out what services are not running in safe mode. Next is to then go into normal mode and using the task manager close all the services that were off in safe mode. Then bring them back in one at a time till you get to the guilty party that is freezing the computer.

Hey Max, Welcome to FreePcHelp.

I've had several problems with my computer with error's coming on my screen and crashing. I've done research on my pc for that and there's several programs i want you to download and run.

These are the 2 programs.

Basically Mal-ware has become big problems for me and others with error's and crashes applications & computers. I'd advise you to download this and run it a few times like 2-3 times.

Process Explorer is a program i used to delete a error from my ASUS drivers. It wasn't located in the registry or my msconfig or my local files. Process Explorer found me the hidden error and i was able to delete it. Use this program to try and fix your crashing.

One last thing. What Virus protection you using? And what internet provider do you use?

Hi,

Did you try this from Nev's post?

First thing is find out what services are not running in safe mode. Next is to then go into normal mode and using the task manager close all the services that were off in safe mode. Then bring them back in one at a time till you get to the guilty party that is freezing the computer.

In Safe mode CTRL + ALT + DEL ( all together ) will take you to Task Manager.

Click on Services.

Make a note of the Services that are listed.

Reboot normally.

Go to Task Manager > Services

Note the extra services running.

From the list of extra services running ( additional to the Safe Mode list ) right click on ALL extra ones and stop them.

If your system runs OK then it looks like one of these stopped services is causing the problem.

From the list of extra services .......right click and start half of them again. ( note which ones ).

If your system freezes then the problem could be with one of running extra services.

If your system runs ok ......start half of the remainder. ( again note which ones )

You are trying to locate a block of services ...then the individual service that is causing your problem.

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!

MiniToolBox

Network Test

Hi I tried to stop the services not running in safe mode, but I don't have enough time to stop them all before the computer freezes again. :S

Just some more updates:

I managed to stop most of the services not in safe mode, but some say they can't be stopped, but it still freezes.

The pc works in diagnostic startup, and selective startup.

Freezing is normally hardware related, have you checked the CPU temps?

have you ran memtest?

I would look at these first, to rule out hardware

Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)

Asus P5K premium black pearl

4GB OCZ Reaper 8500

260GTX
