I have few machines listed under computers and can ping them by IP address

but they are not showing anywhere in DNS. What could be the reason? How can

I correct it that they show up in DNS. That is the reason I can't ping them

by the name either only by IP address.

Thanks!

Re: DNS

Hello boba,

Check that they have no external DNS servers set on the NIC. Use only domain

internal DNS server. Did you run ipconfig /registerdns on the problem machines?

What is the output of that?

Best regards

Re: DNS

I don't know where the machines are, I know mostly at our location not at

branch. Is there any easier way to fix this instead of going machine to

machine to find out which one to run ipconfig /registerdns?

Thanks for your prompt response!

Re: DNS

Hello boba,

Don't think so. You have to check the basics for networking and that is ip

configuration and cabling. Cabling we can exclude because you can ping them

by ip. But if they do not register correct in DNS you have to control the

settings. Do you have Vista or XP then you can connect with remote desktop

to them via ip and login as local admin to check this. If 2000 you can use

VNC or UltraVNC.
