Hi All

I have read some threads on hard-drives.

But still not sure about my question, I would like to replace my internal hard drive in my desktop computer as it's now full, i no that a can delete some programs a make room but the disk is now full where the disk have been wipe and new windows installed.

If i replace it with the same capacity as the old one would i have to do anything more to it other than reload my orignal XP disc and also have my product keys(25).

Will this disc also format the new hard drive.

I have no personal files to back up.

Hi Cherry12...

 

As long as your operating system disk is a licenced copy of windows you can format a new HDD at the same time as installing the operating system. Just carefully follow the instructions given on your screen.

 

Be aware that there are different types of licences, and not all product keys will work on different OS disks.

 

Someone else here will be able to advise you on the details that pertain to your situation. You may be asked for the details from the windows sticker on your computer case (If you have one?). And also details from the disk its self.

 

Do not post your actual product key...

Hi Thanks for the reply.

I do have a official windows XP sticker on the side of the computer case ,it also as a product key it's 5x5 letters and numbers total 25 which i have used when i wipe my hard dive clean, also printed on the sticker is part No. x10-60274 but on the windows disc it reads part No.x10-59483.

If you have used the disk you have to install win xp on the computer in question before then you shouldn't have any problems.

 

Click the Microsoft support link below and carefully read what is said. Then go to method 3 and follow the instructions given.
