Win XP-Pro failing to start Windows past the Log-On screen.

Hi,

when trying to start up my wifes Laptop (Toshiba) into Win XP Pro the

display alternates between "Loading your personal settings" ,"Saving

your personal settings" and 'Loggin off" with just a few seconds

between ON and OFF, continually until emergency-stopped.

I never had any trouble for the past 2 years. Apparently this was

caused after un-installing McFee's Security setup.

How can I get out of this and perhaps try "System Restore?

Kind regards And many thanks!

Re: Win XP-Pro failing to start Windows past the Log-On screen.

Hii

This seems to be a problem with userinit.exe..Lets try and replace the

file from the recovery console..

Boot ur machine using XP cd..follow the on screen instructions till we

get choices for setting up Windows..

Press R to repair..

That will take u to the recovery console..

Type ur Administrator password

Now RC wud show as

C:\Windows

Now Type in

expand <CDDRIVE>:\i386\userinit.ex_ <systemroot>\system32

Basically we are expanding and copying over the userinit.exe file to ur

system root as the existing one has got corrupted...

Regards
