A while back there was a thread on Google Earth, at least I *think* it

was this group. Someone provided a link to a modified v4 program for 98.

Well, in anticipation of using it SOMETIME it was downloaded. Finally

got to install it and wow, it is nice to have this program for W98! Wish

I could recall the name of the person who did it (Rick?). So if you were

the one who did it, nice job, and THANKS!

Re: Thanks for Google Earth for 98!

HEHE, well that service actually isn't free, per se; uses a lot of

scripting, contains a lot of dead links, attempts to get you to use its

downloading software and PAY service, and something I have always tried to

avoid... but if you wish to equate it in the fashion of Hotmail/Live, I

suppose you could. There would be some similar aspects, for sure.

You're welcome

I posted about that over at MSFN as well

http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?s=&showtopic=96499&view=findpost&p=677333

...and I see my RapidShare link is still active..

http://rs135.rapidshare.com/files/45439296/GoogleEarthForW98-v4.0.2416.zip

Anyway remember on W98SE it's somewhat flawed as I mentioned over there,

but it does work somewhat.

Use GE on W2000/WXP where it belongs and works best.

I don't boot much to SE anymore though, unless it's necessary.

I try to read the posts at this forum often, although don't post much.

Re: Thanks for Google Earth for 98!

It would appear that lots of posts are getting filtered from the MS servers

for odd words, who knows why. But how far off was your date? MS doesn't keep

messages for more than a few months. For instance, it would appear that the

oldest posts on the MS server are from the morning of 2/17/08, which happens

to be exactly three months ago. I suspect any post that is farther than

three months from present, past or future, gets deleted.

Re: Thanks for Google Earth for 98!

Ah, okay, so there are at least two variables involved. Win98SE verses XP,

and IE verses download managers.

Potentially even IE versions, what version did you use?

Did you check the scripting being used there? Appears it might be a bit

intrusive.

I'm sure that was probably it Gary.

Yes my month was off by 4 months one day after I adj my time and musta hit

the wrong button.

It wasn't an important post though!

It's just the point I messed up with it is all.

I just took a screenshot of the post layout in that thread as I see it in

OE, and where my post is.

http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/9869/98eu1.jpg

....Heck not that it matters since that post is not active anyone, but for

GP I will reply to my own message in that post right now to get it to show

up, if it isn't already of which I'll embarrass myself more if it is o:)

Hey, I just didn't want PCR thinking that I ever ignore him :)

IE6SP2 (XPSP2). Weirdly, today I'm being forced to wait a minute before I

can access the download list, and there is now one of those damned routines

where you gotta figure out what the letter is and input it, only this one is

worse and you gotta figure out which of the letters has a cat wrapped around

it (they all look like cats to me.) Using Win98 w/ IE6SP1, I get the same

thing. Didn't get any of that stuff last night. New?

All I know is that the site is a royal POS. Which, BTW, matches my opinion

of Hotmail/Live.

And I've reached the extent of my interest in the subject. When you come up

with something less vague regarding the scripting and whatever it is you

consider "intrusive", you let me know. In literal terms, damned near

everything you do on the internet these days is "intrusive", and most of it

involves scripting.

I bet you worry about tracking cookies, don't you?

Nah, not cookies; scripting which wants to take over [to any extent] your

system and browser; collected information beyond the normal [OS, browser,

screen, etc.] both of which appears in done there.

I agree, it IS a royal PITA...

I wouldn't think that of you, Chauvin. That post showed up for me today

& I responded to it. Despite what I see in your .jpg (9/1/08), it shows

up dated today's date, (but yea the thread is old)...

So then it's true, even though I can see my old post I made back then, you

all never saw it because my date was wrong and the servers didn't propagate

it, well that's an interesting tidbit. I had wondered why no one responded

to my post when I had made it - and so now I know.

I vaguely recall long ago someone else here in this NG discovered date

has to be within a certain range for a post to show up. Possibly it

coincides with how long MS will keep a post at the server-- which I have

reason to believe is 3 months. That seems to be the range of what I've

got in a recently reset OE. If your post was dated 3 months too old,

likely it never would show. But it was 4 months into the future-- so, we

had to wait one month to see it!

Odd, it seems to be dated 5/17/08 (both sent & received) in OE-- but

your .jpg is showing one date of 9/1/08. The post it attaches to is

correctly dated at 4/30/08 in your .jpg.

| Have a good day,

You too, Chauvin.

You only see the one post in my screenshot because I took it just Before I

posted that second time there with that reply to myself - and so actually I

should of taken the screenshot after I posted that reply to myself, but

that's not the way it happened.. I see them both, and I could take another

screenshot if you wanted, but it's no biggy I'm sure..

You always thinkin... that's good.

I see. So, you posted a second one with a correct date. Then, the first

never would show up, either-- no matter it is post-dated, instead of

pre-dated, beyond the 3 month limit at the MS news server? I guess you

are seeing it at a different news server for this NG.

Thanks for the opinion. You -- for sure -- Chauvin, are always a

thinker.
