I want a clean reinstall of XP professional. Do I have to repartition my

harddrive or is it enough to just format the partition I want the OS to

reside? There are two partitions on my harddrive c: and d:

It is sufficient to format the WinXP target partition.

Technically the only way to "clean" install is to wipe out/recreate the

partition and rebuild from there. As long as you have an XP operating

system CD and backups of all your data, you should be fine.

A simple reformat will also work, but it's not as thorough a process,

depending on your reasons for wanting to clean install. Also realize, I

hope, that you cannot format drive C if you are running the format from

drive C; you'll need the CD to do that.
