I suspect the default profile may be corrupt.

To test this I'd like to replace it. The OS is W2K3 Std Ed. Does anyone

have recommendations around this process?

You would need to restore this folder from the oldest backup

you have.

Re: How to delete Default Profile

I managed to resolve the issue and it appears that a corrupt default profile

wasn't not the problem after all.

The logon was hanging at "Apply Personal Settings" and I had read that a

corrupt profile might cause this. It was hanging for any user that logged

on, which suggested that if might be the default profile.

However it turned out to be an IP Configuration issue - the other avenue I

was looking into. The server had 3 IP Addresses bound to its NICS, the IP

Addresses stradled two Active Directory Sites. I removed one of the IP

Addresses and added another that is located in the subnet of the remaining

two IP Addresses and it rebooted and logged on twice without any issues.

A useful pointer was the DynamicSiteName string was not in the registry.

This strongly suggested a networking problem. (It is generating on reboot)

Events 1030 & 1058 generated in the application log. Hope someone find this

useful.

Re: How to delete Default Profile

Hello Joe,

Do you still have the Events 1030 & 1058? Seems that your DC is multihomed

which is not really a good solution for DC's and should be avoided.

Re: How to delete Default Profile

Hi Meinolf

It is not a DC - which as per your suggestion we don't configure with more

than one IP Address.

It is a webserver and yes the 1030 & 1058 have cleared since the change to

the IP configuration.

Thanks

Joe
