Highlighted Icon on desktop

When I select or hover over an Icon on the desktop it is highlighted.

If I open a program from an Icon on the desktop, then close it, the

icon is no longer highlighted. On my other two XP machines it is, and

it was on this one until a few weeks ago. I would like it to show

which program I ran last like it used to do. Does anyone know how to

get this feature back? Note: it still works on subdirectories, just

not on the desktop. I like to see what program I last ran.

When I hover my mouse cursor over a desktop icon a popup displays the

location (or path).
