2008 server>>setting permissions stops, freezes

I have a folder (w/around 30 subfolders) which I need to add a user to &

give full access to.

 

On the root folder, I go to:

 

properties\security\advanced\edit\add - add the account, check full control,

apply

 

it displays the progress of setting the permissions for around 30 seconds,

some of the files have no spaces, spaces under_scores in the file

name...then all of a sudden it stops - usually on a file with spaces in the

name..BUT, looking at the progress before it freezes, it sets the

permissions on several files with spaces in its name

 

How can I get past this & have the permissions apply to all?

 

any ideas would be appreciated!
