Guest Dominick Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 I just finished testing the restore of the new backup feature in Windows Server 2008, it is so sweet! I have been doing backups to an external USB drive for about 2 weeks. Today I fished around and kept installing stuff until I hosed the machine - installing another disk driver to my RAID array did the trick. System would not even do a repair from DVD! Would not boot, nothing. So I just clicked on Repair when I booted from DVD, inserted my diskette for the disk drivers needed to access the RAID array, it presented full restore as an option, I selected it, it restored both logical disks (both RAID 1), rebooted, and voila! A perfect working system restored to the state of last night's backup! That is so sweet..
Guest Peter Lawton Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 Re: Backup in Server 2008 is AWESOME Pity MS removed support for tape drives, backing up to network shares and support for Exchange server, which all used to be in NTBACKUP on W2003 But at least if you totally screw your server up, and you use USB HDD drives to backup to, then you can restore it.
