The MD5 is needed to verify whether the download was correctly done.

Never needed to check as I have never had a problem with anything NOT

downloading ok.

There are a number of free checksum calculators available.

I'm using the one at http://www.irnis.net/soft/xcsc/.

I keep a couple of virtual machines around to check out things like SP3

stanalone downloads. Very useful.

MSFT really does need to post the MD5 for ALL file downloads.

Of course, I speaketh with forked tongue, as I have, as yet,

not listed MDs for files at my own web site.
