driver help vista to xp

hi i have a Compaq Presario SR5020AN and i beleve it was a windows vista:confused: but when i got it it was a windows xp and it was fludded with a tone of virus but a way from that i can't find a windows xp sound driver ,pci simple communications controller driver ,sm bus controller driver and a video controller driver for this computer i can't find these things searching on google i can only find windows 7 and vista

i tryed this and its just the driver detective program and i dont have any money to pay for it. maybe if you can find free things... ill keep looking for things and if i find it ill put the url on here if other people cant find the same driver

There may not be any for XP. Compaq doesn't seem to have any for XP but they do for Vista. Have you considered trying to obtain a set of recovery disks from Compaq? If so Start Here.

 

All things considered reinstalling Vista would be best. Who knows what exactly that XP install is.

It's possible to find all the drivers but its going to take some time and patience. A Vista reinstall will be the best option, here is some info I found about your board and drivers to test your patience :)

The Audio driver link does not work, and at the time of posting nor does the Realtek site.

 

Its a Realtek ALC888 audio chipset, I'd wait 24 hours and google it, the Realtek link does come up, and it may just be a glitch on their site.

 

Forget about the PCI Comms controller, just disable it as its an old modem and most probably defunct.

As XP is no longer 'supported' by M$ you may struggle, XP does have built in drivers that 'should' work for all those devices.

 

Go to control panel> system> device manager (now the ones you said are missing should have yellow exclamations next to them... when you click update driver it will search the system drive (if it still doesnt find any click update driver again and at the bottom it says I will choose a driver to install) and there should be some MS ones in that list (now these are just standard drivers but should get you going)

 

Vista and W7 OS have very different architecture to XP, you may be better contacting Compaq for the drivers (email support) I am sure they will have them, they just probably arent signed drivers

ok well thank you for the help there are drivers for that pc on xp because when i got it it was running xp but it was so full of viruss and porn that i had to reload the op system.
