Samv Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 hi, I have a nc10 notebook, had it for around 2 years, and it wont charge. When I was on it last around 2 or 3 days ago, it said battery low plug in mains, so I did and left it as it was, I noticed sometimes the battery would be charging and sometimes it wouldnt. Also sometimes the screen would fade a little like it was on power saving mode even though the laptop was connected to the mains. Anyway it wont turn on at all now. A few months ago I changed the power supply as it wasnt charging but I think this time its a fault with my laptop not with the plug, the plug socket gets warm at the wall and at the end to connect to the laptop so I assume the plugs working. The input on my laptop feels a bit loose like it might not be connected properly, and ive noticed a small crack on the case so it must have been dropped or hit which i didnt notice previously so it may have damaged something, also in the past ive had to change the keyboard as i spilt a liquid on the laptop. My laptops got documents on I need to get so I wanna get this fixed asap. Also my laptop has pictures of my gf *embarrased* that I dont want anybody to see, if I take it to get repaired professional will they see the pictures? How can I check that the input is connected properly? Thanks for any help. Quote
Synapse Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 It's very likely the DC socket has failed, about £5 to buy and probably £60 to £70 to fit. As for data being secure, yes any PC engineer worth his salt could navigate his way around Windows passwords and security, but in most cases they probably won't. They will need to start your machine after repair to check for a charging battery, keyboard, trackpad, wireless and speakers are working as they are all disconnected on strip down. I've just had a look and hard drives are a pain to remove in this laptop - you need to strip the whole machine so you can't remove the drive before repair. If it is passworded, you could refuse to allow them to remove it or logon until you are present, I think that is fair enough. Quote
Jelly Bean Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Hey Sam I have the exact same netbook. The charger and plug do get naturaly warm and not a need of concern. It does sound like the eternal power pin maybe loose and this is why it is not charging,if this is the case it will need soldering back on. However as this is a diffrent charger and not the origonal was a little loose when you first bought it? To check the power pin just use a none metalic object and lightly touch the internal power pin, does it move or is it a solid state? Have you tried removing the mains battery and only using the charger? A internal hard drive can be removed and connected externaly via USB adaptor cables and all data removed then once data has been removed delete any files you do not want anyone to see from the HDD and replace into the netbook. It either appears to be a power setting or an internal or external power issue. Can you borrow a multi charger from a friend and try it? Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
Synapse Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 There's a vid here detailing the hard drive removal process. Quote
