i never even knew these machines existed until i needed one in the office, there is a new initiative were pushing in the nursery where we put everything on disc for the new parents, its great but i need to make the discs look good so i need this printer thingy...

it would seem thought that there are two types

1: CD Label Printers, CD Label Printer

prints labels to stick onto the CD/DVD which might be a bit fiddly but probably a clearer picture?

2: CD-DVD printer - Compare prices on Twenga.co.uk

somehow prints onto the disc? which would be alot easier and depending on image clarity then probably the preferred option

have i got this right? can anyone advise me about image clarity??

as you can tell i really do know nothing about these things so i really appreciate any advice

ar they even domestic machines? they do look a little awkward...

Hi, I also have little experience of disk labelling, however I can only say it depends on how much cash you have available against the desired finish.

The printers designed to print direct to disk are expensive and if the slightly cheaper option of inkjet printer is used will leave you with a printed disk subject to deterioration if damp, just the same as ordinary inkjet on paper will run if wet.

Printing to an adhesive label can be done and needs either software to direct the standard printer to print in the right pattern on the sheet, inkjet is OK as waterproofing spray can be bought as a way to finish the disk. Or a printer built that will handle disk printing without extra software.

The next and possibly the best, both for value for money and finished product is the recent technology of Lightscribe as mentioned by Synapse.

Although it does mean buying the correct disks for the job, plus also making sure you have the disk drive that can do it, it looks to be about the best for finish and price as the disks are not too expensive.

Nev.
