digital signature not found

After installing the driver for an HP scanner, my computer now displays the

following message on the desktop upon startup:

HP Precision Pro Setup

This program updates your HP scanning software. You may see a message about

'Digital signature not found'. You must click 'Yes' for the update to

install correctly. OK

My scanner is working fine. How do I get this message to disappear? Please

advise.

The scanner may be working fine but, in all probability, the software

suite provided by HP for the scanner has yet to complete installation.

Click Yes and let the installation complete itself.

I would be happy to "click yes and let the installation complete itself", but

there is no message box that asks me to do so. As I stated previously, all I

get is a message that tells me I "may see a message" that will ask me to

click "Yes". But the "Yes" message never appears. I have shut down and

restarted my computer countless times over the past few days, and everytime

on startup I get this same annoying message. Please advise on how I can

delete that message.

This MIGHT work:

Click Start, Run, type REGEDIT, click OK. Press the Home key, press F3,

type RUNONCE into the search pane. Click "Find Next", and if located as

an entry in the r-h pane, click to highlight then delete the reference

to the HP utility. Press F3 to continue the search.

You can click File, Export, and save the entry to the Desktop. If you

remove it and there's a problem, double-click the .reg file you exported

to the Desktop and it'll be added to the registry again. You can create

a restore point before editing the registry too.

You could click Start, Run, type MSCONFIG, click OK, click the StartUp

tab, and deselect the item(s). When you restart the computer, you will

be warned that you're running in the Diagnostic mode; click to not alert

you again, and OK out. You won't see the message again. But I think

it's best to just remove the reference from the registry.

Re: digital signature not found

I like the idea of deleting it from the registry. But I'm not sure what I'm

supposed to be looking for. After typing in "RUNONCE" and hitting F3, the

only thing listed was "bDidPerformSynchRunOnce". When I hit F3 again, it

gave me a huge list of files with the following file highlighted -

0e925ec809b8a00c. I hit F3 after that and it bounced to several other

similar file names on the same list. Eventually, it went to another list

with a highlighted name "RunOnceComplete". I honestly don't know what it is

I'm supposed to be looking for. Please elaborate.

The solution might well be to go back to a System Restore point prior

to the time when the HP scanner and the scanner software suite was being

installed. If this opportunity becomes available, run through the install

installation routine per HP's instructions. Aimlessly probing the Windows

Registry and making wanton changes may result in more problems.

You can press Ctrl/F and select only "Keys" in the regedit Find menu to

find the entries I meant you to look through. But unless there's one

that specifically mentions HP Updates, it's best to leave the entries

alone.. even though you could back up the registry, then delete any

candidate you found..

It's probably best you look for support at the HP site. Or maybe

reinstall the scanner software. The idea is to get the software to

install properly and recognize when it's updated.
