I am afraid you're gonna have to be a little more specific...

What's the machine (SPECS), what's the /problem/, etc.

First, SCANDISK/CHKDSK do not test or repair the

operating system (Win98). They are used by the OS

to test or repair drives.

 

Best homework might be:

http://home.satx.rr.com/badour/html/w98_restore.html

which lists what you need to record in advance (e.g.

product ID) and what you need to do after (run updates).

Win98 was not designed for repair: it is so easy to

reinstal (and mavens usually recoommend reinstallation

every year or two.)
