Temporary TS

Hi Everybody,

 

I would like to set up a temporary TS for employees and customers to test

some new software. All our servers have Server 2008. We use a TS with

per-user licensing for our production environment. The test server shall be

built on one of our servers with Hyper-V.

 

How can I make sure that the test server does not pull licenses from our

production environment? Of course, I would install a license server on the

test server (even though this is not recommended for production

environments). Would these two license servers interfere?

Re: Temporary TS

 

To use the grace period of the TS, you have to make sure that the

test TS cannot locate the production LS. You could do that by

overriding the automatic discovery mechanism and point the TS to a

non-existing LS (for example: point the TS to itself and don't

install the TS Licensing Service yet).

When the grace period ends, you can install the TS Licensing

Service on the TS server, giving you another 90 days of temporary

licenses. After that, you'll have to use the production LS and real

TS CALs.
