Do the "newer" versions of the CD contain SATA/RAID drivers?

I'm having trouble with Windows XP MCE and need to replace it with something

else.

Thanks.

Hmmmm. I'm confused; you'd get the drivers for your disk controller from the

hardware manufacturer, not Microsoft. That said, try posting in

microsoft.public.windows.64bit.general.

No new drivers. If you have needed SATA drivers in the past then you still

will. The current cds are XP Pro x64 SP2. If your mobo does not support

SATA drives natively you will need to download them from the manfacturer and

have them on a floppy so that you can use F6 during installation. You can

get more help in the 64bit newsgroup on this subject even though it is not

an XP newsgroup as such.

Re: XP Pro SP2 x64

Why do you think XP Pro x64 will solve your issues with MCE? XP Pro x64

does not have the media center features. If you are thinking of migrating

to a 64bit operating system you had better check with the manufacturers of

your hardware and software for compatibility. In any case, I recommend that

you check out Vista Home Premium x64 and not XP Pro x64. The former is an

excellent consumer user OS. The latter is tailored to users in technical

professions (IMO).

You are better advised to investigate what is giving you troubles in your

present set up and fix that.

Questions still stand.

I know but he is thinking to duck the MCE issues by migrating to XP Pro x64.

I think he should know what his issues are or he risks carrying them over

and thus wasting his money. I use XP Pro x64 and it is not an answer to a

flaky MCE. Vista Home Premium maybe, but if the hardware isn't right

migrating to another OS is sure not going to work. Maybe he will let us in

on the big secret about what issues he is having.

Not by a long shot - agreed.

Would be helpful - for us and him. ;-)

I think he may be asking if Windows XP Professional x64 with SP2 integrated

contains more SATA/RAID drivers - and that is the responsibility of the

hardware vendor making the hardware in the end - not Microsoft.

Usually SPs do not update drivers.

Re: XP Pro SP2 x64

Correct and I answered that point. There are not new drivers. But I think

that question is tangential to the issue he is having, as we have both

observed.
