File Association

I occasionally receive e mail messages with attachments having a .pps file

extension. When I try to open these, I get the error message that this file

does not have a program associated with it for performing this action and

directs me

Folders Options in Control Panel.

The .pps files come from Microsoft Office, I think - Power Point which I do

not have on my computer.

When I get into the Folder Options screen and check the File Types list, I

see that I do have a .pps listed.

I assume I should highlight this and click on something but what?

Thanks

In order to view a PowerPoint presentation on your computer, you can download

and install the free PowerPoint Viewer from Microsoft.

PowerPoint Viewer 2007

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=048DC840-14E1-467D-8DCA-19D2A8FD7485&displaylang=en

If you have problems with that version, here's an older one.

PowerPoint Viewer 2003

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=428d5727-43ab-4f24-90b7-a94784af71a4&displaylang=en

Good luck

Thanks for quick response.

I installed the link, and now in my File Types, I see several file

extensions with

Power Point references, including the .pps that I had all along.

But I still get the error messge when I try to open my email attachement.

Is there something that I must do in the Folder Options screen with the.pps

file extension highlighted, or what?

Thanks again

Re: File Association

Download the free Powerpoint Viewer.

You can view but not edit pps files.

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/downloads/results.aspx?qu=powerpoint+viewer&av=DCT000

2003 version is probably sufficient.

Re: File Association

For the time being, save the attachment to a convenient location on your hard

drive and see if it will open. Meanwhile, post back and let me know what program

you use for email.

I would try the other version of PP Viewer from 2003.

Presumably you installed the newer version from 2007.

If your e-mail address for your posting is valid, I just sent you a second

PPS file just so you can verify that it is not the file itself.
