Hi,

I cannot get into windows at all. Tried using my recovery disc, no luck. I get an error message 01-0134-0000, it mentions something about not being able to find the boot file name, and I can get no further. I have a Toshiba Satellite A135-S4527. I need help right away by tomorrow at least won't get my paycheck for the week if I can't get back into my computer.

Thank you

Hi Vicky, welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help

There are recovery options open to you. Can you get into Safe mode? Try restarting your computer and tapping the F8 key until you see a screen with different options on it. The option at the top of the list should be Safe Mode.

Once in, follow the instructions given via the link below.

Before using a recovery option, be sure to back up all of your personal files.

Edit: For some reason I am not able to link to the required information from the Toshiba site. So here's a copy and Paste...

Information:

Microsoft provides a set of tools for diagnosing and repairing Windows, which is called the Windows Recovery Environment, also known as Windows RE. Toshiba provides Windows RE on all computers sold with Windows Vista. It is stored in a special partition, usually 1.46GB in size.

Follow these steps to access the Windows Recovery Environment:

  1. Turn the computer on, and immediately press and hold the F8 key.

  2. After several seconds, the Advanced Boot Options screen will appear.

  3. Use the up and down arrow keys to highlight Repair Your Computer, then press the Enter key.

  4. Accept or change the language and keyboard selections, then click Next.

  5. Use the mouse and keyboard to select your Windows user name from the drop-down list, and enter your Windows password, then click OK.

  6. The System Recovery Options menu will appear. It will include several Windows Recovery Environment options, typically including the following:

    • Startup Repair
    • System Restore
    • Windows Complete PC Restore
    • Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool
    • Command Prompt
    • Toshiba Recovery Wizard

The Toshiba Recovery Wizard option is not part of the Windows Recovery Environment. Select it only if you wish to restore the computer's original factory software 'image' -- including Windows and applications. This procedure first erases all existing programs, documents, and other data on the hard disk drive.

Please let us know how you get on.

I thought I knew today...I'll try again tomorrow. :)

Thank you for your response, so quickly. I will try this, however I had no luck using my Toshiba Recovery System disc, will this be different than using that, I hope so. Also this used to be my fiance's Moms computer, she passed away and we got it, not sure of the password/user name, can this be changed by chance?

Hello Vicki. From what I have read, the error that you get points to a faulty hard drive. Can you please describe how your computer behaved before you first encountered the problem?

If it is the hard drive, then I am sorry but there is nothing much we can do. Another possible thing is that the recovery disks might be corrupted but that is a long shot.

Please answer the above question so that we may narrow down our results.
