Hi all - the screen on my netbook is driving me nuts, and I'm dying to get it fixed so I can be antisocial and surf the net over Crimbo whilst ignoring the family!

Every time I turn it on, windows only opens up in 2/3rds of the screen and tiles! I know the rest of the screen works, because once in 50 power-ups it works properly and fills the whole screen.

If I plug it into a separate monitor, the 2nd monitor is fine.

Any thoughts/help/suggestions gratefully received.

Photo attached (hopefully)

No joy with that I'm afraid :(

Two display options - 800x600 and 1024x768 - amd neither changed the issue

Typically on maybe the 20th time I restarted the netbook last night, it filled the screen beautifully and I was able to use it normally. However, switched it on again this morning....and it's back to partial screen and tiling thing again.

More ideas required I'm afraid?

Do you have the driver for the machine on a disk, or does windows update find one?

It looks like its trying to use the generic XP one which is rubbish. did you get any disks at all with the machine?

try this too

start>control panel>system>device manager> have a look at the display driver and try and update the driver - let it search automatically and if there is a better match from say windows update then it will load the driver for you automatically..

Let us know how you get on

What is the screen size on the netbook?

Netbook screen is 9inches, and the reduced sized portion used is only 7 inches (excluding the bit that tiles below)

I haven't got internet at work (the beggars won't give me the wifi code) - but I have looked into what you suggest ready for when I get home tonight. See attached photo - Should I be looking at updating the "Display adapters" or "Monitors" -- either way, is there any reason why there should be three references to "Digital Flat Panel (1024 x 768)" under Display Adapters?

Help appreciated - hopefully we're getting warmer!

Lol - thats weird, the problem you may have is that if you disable/remove all of them you may end up with no display.

It looks like at some point someone has connected more than one monitor to that device, but when they are removed they should have gone - if you click into each one it will give you a better description of them, I would REMOVE any (that do not fit the description of the device) as in uninstall the driver for it.. untill you are ledt with just the one.

then restart - see if its all ok? if not then have a look in device manager and check if the 3 have appeared again.. in which case you may have to remove all of them and then restart and cross your fingers that windows detects it  (this is a last resort though as you could end up with some issues, like the monitor not displaying )
