Guest Lone Star Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 What to do!! Around June 30, Outlook Express can no longer be used to access Hotmail accounts. Microsoft says to install Windows Live Mail, which is not compatible with WinME. Nice. Does anyone have any reasonable workarounds for accessing Hotmail with ME, other than using the web interface? Or is this just another chip into the life of WinME.... EW
Guest Mike M Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 Re: Windows ME and Hotmail?????? What to do? Access Hotmail using your browser is one way to go, another is to dump Hotmail and move to GMail.. One point to remember is that OE access to Hotmail for new Hotmail accounts hasn't been available for some years so only a relatively small number of people will be involved although that number includes both yourself and myself. The one bright spot is that Microsoft have temporarily postponed the removal of access to Hotmail using the DAV protocol on June 30, however how long that delay might be is anybody's guess. For details see: 05 May Responding to Customer Feedback – Disabling DAV Recently, many customers received notification regarding Microsoft’s plan to disable the DAV protocol, which allows you to access your Windows Live Hotmail inbox from Outlook Express. From the feedback we received, it became clear that you needed additional time to evaluate alternative solutions and with this in mind, we are postponing the transition deadline previously announced. This means that you will continue to be able to access your Windows Live Hotmail accounts from Outlook Express beyond the June 30 transition deadline. As Microsoft continues to evolve its products to meet your needs, we appreciate your feedback. This change to Outlook Express protocol is one such evolution and will allow for managing of multiple accounts and today’s large inboxes. We will update you on expected future changes and alternatives with enough advance notice to ensure a smooth transition. We apologize for the inconvenience this change may cause. Guest Lone Star Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 Re: Windows ME and Hotmail?????? Thanks, Mike, for the info (esp the thing about OE's use being extended). Yes I know I can use GMAIL, but it's not that easy to make the switch after having a zillion contacts (personal and business) with Hotmail. I've already tried to switch over some people to my GMAIL account, and they still use my Hotmail account for messages. Yes, they're brain-dead, but it shows the frustration in transitioning. Thanks again. EW "Mike M" <No_Spam@Corned_Beef.Only> wrote in message news:OFqQFvfuIHA.4952@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... > What to do? Guest Mike M Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 Re: Windows ME and Hotmail?????? EW, All one can do is remind them each time you contact them, perhaps by adding a footer at the end of each message as part of your signature? Annoying I know, fortunately few people now use my hotmail address so the loss here won't be so great. -- Mike Maltby mike.maltby@gmail.com Lone Star <ewyatt_del_me-@excite.com> wrote: > Thanks, Mike, for the info (esp the thing about OE's use being > extended). > Yes I know I can use GMAIL, but it's not that easy to make the switch > after having a zillion contacts (personal and business) with Hotmail. > I've already tried to switch over some people to my GMAIL account, > and they still use my Hotmail account for messages.
