Continuous Restart After sp3

After installing sp3 on a HP Pavilion a1130n the computer continuously

reboots once you see the windows xp logo.

After visiting the website for HP and my model I saw it was do to sp3 being

installed on computers with AMD processors. Heres what it says in a download

for a update utility to fix the problem.

"Description

Microsoft Windows XP SP3 Upgrade Utility prevents continuous system restarts

or "Stop: 0x0000007E" errors after upgrading to Windows XP SP3 on systems

with AMD processors.

Fixes

Prevents a condition from occurring that causes continuous system restarts

or "Stop: 0x0000007E" errors after upgrading to Microsoft Windows XP Service

Pack 3 on systems with an AMD processor.

Example:"A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to

prevent damage to your computer..."

The only problem if I cant install the update if I cant boot up the

computer. I have tried using safe mode and last successful settings. It also

says I have to install it before I install sp3.

I don't have the disks that came with the computer, but I do have a stand

alone windows xp professional sp2 disk.

Any help would be great. Thank you.

Re: Continuous Restart After sp3

See

http://msinfluentials.com/blogs/jesper/archive/2008/05/08/does-your-amd-based-computer-boot-after-installing-xp-sp3.aspx

[NB: The above has been updated many times and now includes "a small tool

that will detect the IntelPPM problem and mitigate it before installing

(WinXP SP3)."]

Some other possible workarounds:

• Boot into Safe Mode and rename INTELPMM.SYS to INTELPMM.OLD.

• After booting into Safe Mode:

Start | Run | (copy/paste) sc config intelppm start= disabled | OK | Reboot

into normal (Windows) mode.

Last but not least...

Free unlimited installation and compatibility support is available for

Windows XP, but only for Service Pack 3 (SP3), until 14 Apr-09. Chat and

e-mail support is available only in the United States and Canada.
