Nagging Win IE 7 "AD"

Recommended Posts

For some unknow reason, I've been inflicted with what appears to be an "AD"

from

MS each time I open IE6. The result of this is an attempt to change the

"First Home Page"

in IE6. This is the URL --

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx

I've verified that my home page is set to the ISP web page (Tools - IE

options) and

in the registry. LavaSoft's AdWatch considers it as a possible "Browser

HiJack" item

and starts displaying Registry alerts, none stop !!. I can disable the

monitoring

function of AdWatch and it ceases to be a problem; but then, I'm

theoretically

exposing myself to the risk of a true HiJack event.

I can also stop the problem by disabling "Resident Protection" within the

SpyBot S&D program.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated !!!!!!

Well, I did what "PA Bear" described , as well as the associated link.

Still get the IE7 page, but at least the registry errors quit popping up....

So, am I stuck with seeing this page when I open IE ???

MS has effectively placed "ad-ware" on users computers. I hope mal-ware

programs will implement a block for it quickly. Once again, MS thinks

they know what is "best" for us.

Hence why I don't use Internet Explorer. I do have the IETab extension

installed for Firefox however so that I can go and visit those Internet

Explorer only sites using Firefox.

I too use FF. As long as you understand that IETab uses the IE engine,

which means you are using IE, but from within FF. And the risks

associated with it remain.
