Hi:

I have Windows Server 2003 sp1. I had installed Certificate Services and

it was working fine for me. It suddenly stopped working and not if I try to

start the service I get "Certificate Services did not start: Unable to

initialize the database

connection for <CAserver>. Catastrophic failure Unexpected method call

sequence. 0x8000ffff".

I tried various tricks mentioned at

http://www.derkeiler.com/Newsgroups/microsoft.public.windows.server.security/2005-08/0062.html

and

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/190059.

But I am still getting the same error.

When I uninstall and reinstall the certificate services, the service does

start but then I can't access the certificate by clicking "properties". I get

"Access Denied" error. To resolve that I tried setting the permissions

correctly, but for the permissions to be applied, I have to restart the

services and if I do that the service doesn't start giving the "Catastrophic

error".

I have been struggling with this for quite sometime. Any help would be

appreciated.

Thanks.

-Umesh.
