Ad-Aware SE troubles

Has anyone using Ad-aware SE noticed when the programs loads the last two

latest de files have been corrupt? I've not change the way I've gotten the

file nor the way I extract the file. Haven't change download managers so I

know for sure that can't be it. I even tried two different sites with no

luck.

In concurrence with Mow's reply, no problems here either.

It must be a local issue.

Re: Ad-Aware SE troubles / Correction

I stand corrected:

There is no problem downloading, but loading the program produces an error

message of either no load, or corrupt files.

We'll have to wait and see, if it's being fixed.

Nope, haven't tried that link yet. I've been using

http://www.lavasoft.com/support/securitycenter/blog/ to get them.

I use a program called Free Download Manager. I'll try that link right now.

Re: Ad-Aware SE troubles / Correction

Mewtwo,

I cannot address the problem you are having with AdawareSE, but, did

want to FYI that I dumped Adaware some time ago because of the way it was

becoming bloated with the paid version's files even when they cannot be used

with the free version! I am not saying you should dump it as I did,

however, I have found another free app that has received a lot of good press

and I am having a very good experience with it myself , and that is:

Spyware Terminator.

http://www.spywareterminator.com

I set the program to the 'advanced' or 'experienced' mode to start,

while it was learning what should be allowed and not. This results in a LOT

of popup windows asking what I wanted to do. After a day or two, these

rarely show up and only if something new has been added or used. I am not

using the 'Internet Protection' feature, as I have other things doing this

function. This app has a built in AV that is updated daily and it runs in

perfect harmony with Avast! AV, so, it is like double

protection........never had a conflict of any kind. (can't vouch for any

other AV).

Just an FYI, only my opinion, FWIW, YMMV and all the other

disclaimers.....

Heirloom, old and it works for me

Re: Ad-Aware SE troubles / Correction

Thanks Loom, but I've got to stay with Ad-Aware 'cause it along with Spyware

Blaster and SpyBot are the only three that JAWS will work with without too

much trouble. AVG also is fine with my screen reader.

Re: Ad-Aware SE troubles

I'm still getting the same error message and suspect they dropped their

support for WinME. I plan on doing without it.

SuperAntiSpyware, free addition, seems like a good substitute.

Re: Ad-Aware SE troubles

Just updating my situation.

I've not uninstalled Ad-aware, just temporarily retired it. Now, using

SpyBot Search & Destroy in concert with Spyware Blaster and the MVP's hosts

file, I should be well and protected right?

I stopped using SpyBot 'cause of that darned TeaTimer. It kept mucking

everything up and I didn't know how to turn the blasted thing off.

Fortunately, you can uncheck that during the install.

I'm just glad that AVG's updates aren't doing the same thing.

Re: Ad-Aware SE troubles

You might as well uninstall, because it's gone for WinME.

The Tea Timer can be controlled under >Tools>Resident> check or uncheck.

Did you check out SuperAntiSpyware free edition?

It's a really nice alternative.

Hm, tried it, but JAWS wasn't cooperating.

That's a whole new ball game.

I'm not familiar with 'JAWS', maybe someone else is.

May I ask why use this program, which apparently is interfering?

Harry, JAWS (for Windows) is a highly sophisticated (and IMHO, somewhat

expensive) 'Text-to-Speech/Screen Reader' utility made particularly for the

visually impaired.

Thank you Mart.

There ought to be a way to provide assistance in this matter, but it's

beyond my scope. Hope the poster gets it.

Re: Ad-Aware SE troubles

Hello:

Over in the Win 98 general discussion group, they seem to be speculating

that the latest Ad-Aware SE def files are for NT-based systems only, and

have dropped support for Win 98/ME systems - even though it makes little

sense to drop Win 98/ME support for Ad-Aware SE, since the users of it are

likely on these older systems. Most users of newer system, such as Win 2000,

XP, and Vista, have likely upgraded to Ad-Aware 2007/2008.

For what it's worth .....

Cheers,

O.J.

No use, Barb, they simply dropped support for WinME and I decided to do

without it.
